Are you interested in becoming a Parish Councillor?
Parish councils act as the local government closest to the community, focusing on local matters like managing public spaces, providing recreational facilities, and representing the community's views. In Wheatley, our duties include maintaining streetlights, allotments, and the village hall car park. We support local community groups/clubs and take an active role in gathering, sharing and shaping information on local/regional projects e.g. Steeple Renewables .Parish councils raise funds through a local tax called the "precept," which is part of the council. To become a parish councillor, you must meet specific eligibility criteria, such as being at least 18 years old, a British or eligible Commonwealth citizen, and registered to vote in the parish. You must have also lived, worked, or owned property in the parish for at least 12 months before your nomination and election. You can become a councillor by standing for election, or by filling a vacancy if a seat is open after an election. If you are interested in joining us please use the contact us page or email the clerk.
